Let us go

Together, watching as sunbeams rise,
Gentle clouds waltz through morning skies,
Birds sing cheery songs of love,
Ducking and diving in the great above,
You hold us tight,
Showing us off in the warm golden light,
We're here for you, oh,
Don't let us go.

We stand together through pouring rain,
Watching as it spirals from the sky and dives to the drain,
Shutting your eyes, holding your head low,
You know,
Soon, you'll have to let us go.

The cold starts to set in,
Covering the ground in an icy skin,
Water swirls and slowly stops,
Frozen now as crystal drops,
We shiver and you feel our chill,
Our noses running as we become ill,
You see our fading glow,
But you refuse to let us go.

We shrivel now, our colour lost,
Stolen by the morning frost,
One by one we fall away,
Quicker and quicker with each passing day,
We know you're scared of being alone,
Of loosing all the things you've grown,
But you will be fine,
And, it's our time,
You have to let us go.

It's just me and you,
We're now down to two,
And your hands start to slip,
I feel your failing grip,
The look of worried eyes,
The light behind them dies,
Let me go!
No...
Let me go!
No...

Feeling your pain,
The wind encases you in a knowing embrace,
Carefully cupping your pleading face,
Slowly they turn you away,
And with one gentle blow,
You let me go.
